Jozy Altidore packs a scoring punch for Team USA

A lack of finish is one reason United States teams have not finished off their last five World Cup appearances like they felt they should have.

Only twice in those trips to the world’s greatest sporting event have the Americans advanced out of their group, and only once have made it to the quarterfinal round.

Goal scoring — or rather a lack of it — is the reason. Americans can’t finish their offensive runs with a shot to the back of the net. It’s been the biggest criticism directed at the Yanks from their counterparts around the world.

Scoring only 13 times in their 15 group matches is the main reason the U.S. is 2-10-3 in the first round of World Cup play.
