Montreal Canadiens Buy Out Final Year Of Forward Georges Laraque’s Deal

The Montreal Canadiens finalized their most obvious move this offseason, buying out the final contract year of veteran right winger Georges Laraque Tuesday.

The Canadiens ended Laraque’s two-year stint in Montreal, one day after the buyout window period started Monday.

Buying out Laraque’s contract came as an obvious move for the Canadiens, who asked the veteran enforcer to stay away from team practices and games.

Former Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey even labeled the Haitian native as a “distraction” on the team.
