President Barack Obama celebrated Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake and their unlikely road to the team's first title.
Obama welcomed the Utah team to the White House Friday, applauding their success after qualifying for the playoffs on the last day of the season with a losing record.
"Well, welcome to the White House," he said. "And congratulations on winning your first MLS Cup Championship -- and for bringing the state of Utah its first professional sports title in almost 40 years. That's a pretty big deal."
Obama said RSL's victory proves that in soccer, there's no such thing as a foregone conclusion.
